Every evening, a thousand feet or more deep in tropical Western Pacific waters, millions of nautili stir and slowly make their way up to shallow coral reefs in search of food. Then, before daybreak, they return again to their resting places on the ocean floor. Theirs is a daily ritual steadfastly maintained since before the time of the dinosaurs.

The mathematical relationship of each curve used to construct an equiangular spiral is called the "golden ratio."
